Proprietary TurboCloud Technology
Estimating systems need to be installed locally on your computer rather than being online so that you're not held hostage to an internet connection. The problem with other locally installed estimating systems is that after you download their database, you're left on your own to add new items and to create your own new assemblies.
Where TurboCloud comes into play is that as time goes by, we continue to add new items and assemblies to our master database. Through our exclusive TurboCloud technology, you're able to access these new items and assemblies and add them to your local database.
We host our TurboBid master database on a secure Microsoft Azure SQL Server located in the clouds. The TurboCloud control panel, which is located in your copy of TurboBid, communicates with our master database. The left side of the TurboCloud control panel displays the contents of your local database and the right side displays the contents of our master database. You can filter the display to only show the items and assemblies that are in our master database that you don't already have in your local database. You simply drag what you want from our master database to your local database.
Last but not least, TurboCloud also includes a feature that will update the Trade and Target material prices in your local database so that you can be assured that your material prices are always up to date.
TurboBid includes tens of thousands of assemblies. The assembly preview screen allows you to quickly view the material that is included in each assembly. A picture is displayed for every item in the assembly.

A multi tab screen displays your Employees, Burden Groups, and Employee Burdens. The list is highly detailed and makes it simple to view everything about your employees, including all of their burdens. It is linked to and interacts with the Employee Wizard and the Burden Wizard.
The Employee Wizard is used to create new employees as well as maintain existing employees. It is very detailed and is designed in a simple to use step by step wizard format. It makes creating new employees really simple.
Burden Group Wizard
The Burden Group Wizard is used to create new Burden Groups as well as maintain existing Burden Groups. Burden is the additional costs that you incur because of your employees. It is payroll taxes, insurance, paid and unpaid time off, etc. In order to calculate an accurate bid price, you must have an accurate burden cost for each of your employees. TurboBid's Burden Wizard is very detailed and is designed in a simple to use step by step wizard format.
Per Plan and Value Engineered
Value Engineering a print means that the electrical layout provides the most cost-effective, yet code specific, layout possible. Devices are added to meet the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local amendments. Devices are also eliminated and/or relocated in order to lower the cost while still maintaining the industry standard for electrical design. Your customers need to count on your expertise in this area. The architect is not their electrical contractor, you are. If you can lower their cost thru value engineering, you will have an advantage over your competition.

It can be difficult to determine your company’s overhead costs. TurboBid includes two different overhead cost calculators. One to calculate your overhead cost percentage and one to calculate your overhead cost per hour.

Material Price Updates
TurboBid allows you to keep your material prices up to date with pricing services from TurboPricer, Trade Service, EPIC, and NetPricer. Many national and local supply houses have agreed to provide TurboBid users with price files to update their material prices.
Original Bid and Change Order Revisions
You can do one take-off Per Plan and another take-off adding and/or deleting items in order to meet the minimum code requirements. Or you can do one take-off for the original bid and then do another take-off based on the customers walk thru. The reports and proposal show both side by side as well as a combined total.
Electrical Code Section
TurboBid's electrical estimating program features an electrical code section so that you know exactly what the local electrical inspector is going to require. It's a good idea to include all of the code requirements in your estimate. It's never a good thing to have to go back to your customer and ask for more money because you did not include all of the code requirements.
All of TurboBid's proposals and reports are automatically generated from the information that is input into the estimate. Your bid package will be generated at the click of a button.
Automatically Adjust Labor Units
The construction factors of a building make a difference on installation times. Example: The 1st floor's ceiling is constructed of dimensional lumber (2x12). The 2nd floor's ceiling is constructed of open roof trusses. A ceiling outlet will take longer to rough-in on the 1st floor than it will on the 2nd floor. TurboBid's electrical estimating program automatically adjusts the installation times based on the construction factors of a building on a floor by floor basis.
Adjust Labor by Room or Location
TurboBid gives you the ability to assign a labor difficulty to each room or location in your take-off. If you feel that a certain area will be more difficult to install material in, simply enter a percentage and TurboBid will automatically adjust the normal labor units for all of the material to be installed in that location.
Adjust Labor for Ceiling
Material installed in ceilings typically take longer than material that is installed elsewhere. TurboBid allows you to assign a degree of separate degree of difficulty for the ceilings in each room or location in your take-off. TurboBid will automatically adjust the normal labor units for all of the material that is to be installed in the ceiling.
TurboBid includes an optional interface that allows you to quickly complete your take-off by using the digital blueprints that you receive from your customers. TurboBid is seamlessly linked to Planswift's on-screen take-off software program. Simply click on the symbols displayed in your on-screen blueprint to mark the symbol just like you would on paper prints. The quantity counts and/or linear measurements are then automatically added into TurboBid's take-off tab. TurboBid also provides a huge library of symbols that you can add to your digital blueprints for value engineering or design build. This fantastic feature saves both time and money!
Employee Skill Level
Use adjusted hours if you have workers that perform at less than journeyman production. This might be the case with an apprentice or summer help. For example, if the apprentice is producing half of what a journeyman produces, the entire crew is going to have to work more hours to make up for the apprentices lack of production. TurboBid's estimating program will calculate and add the additional hours that the entire crew will need to work in order to make up for the apprentices' lack of production.
Labor Rate Increase
TurboBid automatically calculates the amount of increase to add to all of the units in the project to account for any upcoming labor increases. Example: The project is scheduled to start in April and you have a labor rate increase that will start in June. You don’t want to have to go back to your customer and ask for an increase two months after you have started the project. You also do not want to add the full labor increase to the units that will be built prior to the increase. If you do, your price will be too high to get the project. Based on the number of units that are in the project and how many units are built per week, TurboBid's electrical estimating program will calculate the correct amount to add to each unit to offset the labor increase.
Average Man-Hour Cost
The crew can consist of different pay rates and benefits. (Example: 1 Foreman, 2 Journeymen, and 1 apprentice) TurboBid will automatically calculate the average pay rate per hour as well as the average burden per hour for the entire crew.
Trade and Target Price
Each item in TurboBid's material database lists Trade Service's Column3 and Target pricing. Trade (Column 3) pricing is the manufacturer's suggested list price and Target pricing is the average price that you can expect to pay for the item at your supply house.
View Picture and Catalog Page
Each item includes a picture of the item as well as the manufacturers catalog page for the item. This feature is a great research tool as well as a way to make sure that you know what the item is.
Preferred Vendor Price
Each item in TurboBid's material database can be assigned pricing for up to 5 of your favorite material vendors. At the end of an estimate, you will see the total material cost for each vendor. Simply select the vendor that you want to use and TurboBid enters their material cost into the estimate.
Global Labor Unit Adjustment
Each item and assembly in TurboBid's database uses a realistic labor unit.
Other programs use a traditional Column 1 labor unit that are usually on the high side. The problem with Column 1 labor units is that they include additional labor that you might not incur. TurboBid's labor units only include the time that the item or assembly will actually take to install. Any additional labor is added on a job by job basis. In the Additional Labor section, you will add time for deliveries, daily job set up, paperwork, driving, sweeping, etc.
Since every company produces differently, you have the ability to globally adjust the item and assembly labor units to fit your company. If you find that TurboBid's labor units are a little high, or a little low, simply enter a percentage and every item in TurboBid's database will be adjusted by that percentage.
This method provides a great way to fine tune your labor units to reflect how your past job came in. If you find that your estimated labor hours are coming out a little high, or a little low, simply adjust the global percentage.

Room by Room Take-Off
Take-offs in TurboBid are completed on a unique room by room or location by location basis. The take-off spreadsheet is pre-loaded with the rooms or locations that are on the blueprint along with the required assemblies. Take-offs are not only incredibly fast but they are also extremely accurate and detailed. This method allows you to submit a proposal to your customer that lists the assemblies that are included in each room or location.
Lost Project Report
The lost project report consists of each project that you were not awarded. It lists the project information as well as who you lost the job to and by how much. It can list the either the dollar amount or the percentage that you were higher than your competition that was awarded the job. This historical data can assist you in adjusting your bid price.
Clicking on the "Note" icon will bring up a screen where you can keep notes for the project that you are working on. The current date is automatically entered for your new entry. This is a great feature if you speak to the builder, architect, etc., and you would like to make a note of the conversation for future reference.
TurboBid keeps a database of labor classifications. A labor classification is a name for a worker who receives a certain pay rate and burden rate. For example: Foreman, Journeyman, Apprentice, helper, etc. Each classification includes the employee's pay rate, benefits, corporate burden, and any future pay rate increase. In the direct labor section of the estimate process, you simply select the manpower classifications from the manpower database.
There is also a great Billable Rate Per Hour calculator that will help you calculate how much you need to charge for each employee. The employee's Pay Rate and Billable Pay Rate Per Hour are two different animals.
To open TurboBid, you need to enter your user name and password. You also have the ability to restrict access to individual projects to certain users. If you would rather keep the bid price and other sensitive data to yourself, you can set up a user with data entry only restrictions. This means that you can set someone up to enter data into the estimate while restricting them from viewing any of the pricing screens.
TurboBid’s estimate checklist allows you to verify that you have completed all of the necessary steps in generating an accurate and complete estimate. Simply check each item verifying that you have completed the required step. When an item is checked, it changes from red to green. When all of the items have been checked, the icon on the main screen turns from red to green. This provides a quick visual indicator that your estimate is good to go.
Learning a new software program can be daunting. With TurboBid, most of the screens have interactive videos that will guide you through how to complete the screen.
You can enable TurboBid to automatically back up its database to your hard drive. That means if you accidentally lose or corrupt TurboBid's database, you can reload it from the back-up.
